Kollywood’s top comedians are heroes this season

The year 2014 will see Kollywood's comedians in lead roles. While some have played protagonist in the past, for few others, it will be their first-of-its-sorts. Doing what they do best, Tamil industry's funny men will not include humour, but also experiment with other genres like action and drama, among others in their films. Times of India gives you a list of comedy heroes to watch out for this year...

Goundamani
Legendary comedian Goundamani, who was known for his comic partnership with Senthil, has played solo lead in a few films before. The actor became less prolific in the past decade owing to ill health and hasn't appeared in a film for the past three years. Now, he's making a big comeback this year with49-O, a political satire, in which he plays the lead role, as a farmer.

Vadivelu
His recent release as a hero, Tenaliraman, might have received mixed reviews at the BO, but comedian-turned-actor Vadivelu strikes a chord with audiences, especially children, with his films. From his first film as hero Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, Vadivelu has chosen subjects that not only suit his age but also attract audiences of all age groups. With reports of him doing a sequel to Imsai Arasan..., Vadivelu's clearly branding himself as a hero.

Santhanam
It was his comedy television show Lollu Sabha that fetched Santhanam film offers. After appearing in a series of films, Siva Manasula Sakthi made him popular among masses. With his work in films like Boss Engira Bhaskaran, among others fetching him awards, Santhanam is all set to make his debut as a lead in Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham. The first look of the film has him in a stylish avatar romancing newbie Ashna Zaveri.

Vivekh
Vivekh was supposed to make his debut as a hero quite some time back — with Panju and Solli Adippen, but the films never saw a release. Magane En Marumagane in 2010 saw him play the second lead, but it will be Pallakadu Madhavan with Sonia Aggarwal and Naan Thaan Bala with Swetha that will launch him as a solo hero. Vivekh is actually playing a serious role in the latter.
