Frix Entertainments     February 15, 2014

After a few dramatic turns actress Mounika was allowed to pay her last respects to the veteran director and her husband Balu Mahendra. Today, in an interview to a leading daily, the Vanna Vanna Pookkal actress has shared her thoughts about the deceased director who is referred by her as a 'good family head'.

Mounika debuted in Un Kannil Neervazhindhal,  a film directed by Balu Mahendra . The film released in 1985 and Mounika played the role of Superstar Rajnikanth's sister in that film. Mounika says that her original name is Vijay Rekha .  Balu Mahendra selected the name 'Viji' for many of his heroine characters only as a mark of his love towards the actress. Even the director's last film Thalaimuraigal had a pivotal female character named 'Viji'.

Mounika has said that she did not watch Thalaimuraigal because the character in which her husband  acted would die as per the story. Mounika clarified that only after the director suffered the second heart attack he publicized his marriage with her that too without making telling that to her.  Mounika admitted that like every other woman would do, she too opposed her husband's decision to adopt a girl aged around 20 and that caused a strain in their relationship. Nevertheless, the actress clarifies that Balu Mahendra has never withdrawn his affection towards her. She also said that Balu Mahendra has never had a permanent misunderstanding with anyone and he could not hate anyone in his life.

Finally Mounika has thanked the directors Bharathiraja, Vetrimaran and Viduthalai for their efforts to ensure that she gets the opportunity to see her husband's face, one last time. She also thanked Balu Mahendra's son from his first wife,  Shanky Mahendra for obliging to the request she made over phone to allow her at the venue where the director's mortal remains was kept for public homage.
