The Jai – Nazriya starrer Thirumanam Enum Nikkah (TEN) opened up in theatres today after a long wait. The movie, produced by Aascar Ravichandran, is directed by debutant Anees, and has Ghibran's music.

Situations force Vaishnavaites Vijay Raghav Chari (Jai) and Vishnu Priya (Nazriya) to assume identities of Muslims – Abubaker and Ayesha, respectively. And, they fall in love with each other's false identities. When they, after a 2 hour long journey, get to see each other's true self, they are not sure whether they are as much in love as they were with their false identities.

Could they accept themselves? TEN answers that.

TEN is filled with interesting rituals of the Tamil Iyengar community in the first half, and of the Muslim community in the second half.  Loganathan's camera, and the art department (the scenes that involve Nazriya in the middle of a big rangoli is brilliant!) deserve special mention for the authentic presentation. However, the purpose of those rituals and their intentions in the movie are not conveyed.

Director Anees has taken an interesting plot for his debut film. If only had he not fallen for commercial compromises – a couple of unwanted songs, a superfluous secondary love track, and a forced fight in the end – TEN would have been more memorable.

As the end credits roll up, we see a shot of all the actors of the movie in a train, and the shooting equipments in the platform. The shot ends with a glimpse of the platform number 10 aka TEN. Such fine directorial touches from Anees were not evident in the movie.

Jai, as usual delivers a neat performance. Nazriya's acting prowess is already proven with her other movies – Neram, Raja Rani and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum. TEN will be another addition to the list. And, it is to be noted that TEN is her official debut to Tamil Cinema!

Ghibran delivers his best in TEN. His songs Enthaaraa Enthaaraa, Chillendra and Kannukkul Pothivaipen, are already chartbusters in FM Stations, and are sure to be a rage in TV Channels as well. His music captures the Islamic flavour of the movie to perfection.

In short, Thirumanam Enum Nikkah could have been so much better, with little more effort from the scripting team!
